Entering the third round on Saturday, Fischer was tied for 14th at 7 under par after a 5 under first and 2 under second round. Fischer started the day at the first hole in a group of three. The play of all the players was extremely affected by the winds that stayed around all round long.
The first five holes were uneventful as he went par those holes. On the sixth hole, Fischer would bogey and be one over par through the front nine holes. Fischer would par hole 10 and get back that bogey with a birdie on the 11th hole. Fischer would go on to birdie holes 13 and 17 to finish the round at 2 under for the day and 9 under as a whole.
While it would seem that the wind didn’t have an effect on Fischer, the wind cost him some opportunities to move up the leaderboards all day. At hole three, Fischer had a chance for birdie, but a gust of wind pushed his put faster than anticipated and over shot the hole. Hole six saw a similar issue as his shot got picked up by another wind gust and pushed him into the rough causing him to use an extra shot to get on the green. At hole 14, another wind gust took Fischer’s shot into the bunker and if it wasn’t for a great shot out of the bunker, then Fischer had a great chance to bogey that hole. On hole 17, the wind pushed his ball faster again and causing him to lose out on an eagle putt. The same thing would happen to Fischer on hole 18 but this time for birdie. He finsished the tournament tied for 10th.
Fischer didn’t use the wind as an excuse however, because he said that he is used to these winds from his time at UTA. He also loved being able to represent UTA so close to home and play in front of friends and family. He also appreciated that UTA was able to make it and see him play as well.
